1st Anniversary Pictures

Something I really want to do is take pictures around our anniversary every year. For our first anniversary, my sister happily agreed to go out to a park with us and be our photographer. We think she did a great job! Here's some of our favourite shots of the evening. (Some of them are rather funny. It helps to have a jokester for a husband!)

Golf

I never really thought golf was a sport, until yesterday.  It takes some serious skill and muscles in funny places to golf.  You've got to be able to whack the ball far, but also be accurate when you get close to the hole.

My annual company golf tournament was on Friday so Leif and I joined in on the fun.  It was my first time golfing.  (Except for mini-golf, but that doesn't count).  We went to the driving range for a bit first so I could learn how to hit the ball.  I missed more than I hit, and took a few twirls.  The lady behind me was laughing at my sounds effects.  My husband kept having to remind me to keep my eye on the ball and keep my knees bent.  Then we started the 18-hole course.  Luckily it was "best ball", so Leif could bail out his team of beginners!  Otherwise we would have been there for 10 hours!

Here's a funny picture that describes my experience quite well.  While we were there it wasn't raining, but it's been raining here for the past month, so the course was wet and muddy.  My ball landed in a big pile of muck so I went in to get it and I got stuck!!!  Hooray for wearing trendy rain boots while golfing!!

Power Outage

When we got home yesterday evening at around 9pm, we had no power at our house!  I called the electricity company and they said they would have it back up by 11pm.  So showering by candlelight it was!  Looks pretty romantic eh?

After I got over the initial worried phase, I was pretty excited that we had no power because that meant I wouldn't be enticed by anything on the computer and I surely couldn't do dishes in the dark, so I would be able to get to bed on time!  Unfortunately, 3 minutes into my shower, the power came back on.  And I wasted an hour on the computer.  Go figure!

Sunday Evening Adventure

I have this friend named Laura.  She is getting married to a guy named Cody in 81 days and we get to go to their wedding!  Hooray!

Cody left to go back to where they'll be living and Leif left to go play frisbee golf with Keith, so we decided it would be a fine idea to go for an evening-out, just the two of us.  Laura picked sushi for supper, and I picked Globefish, the restaurant where you can get amazing sushi.  The funny part is that we both don't really like sushi!  Only California rolls and teriyaki beef!  I've grown up using chopsticks so I never think that anyone else can't use them.  This is Laura's first attempt at eating rice with chopsticks! (Sorry it's blurry.  It's a cell phone picture because we both didn't bring real cameras.)

I happen to think she looks beautiful, even when trying to master the awkward art of eating with sticks.  She was hungry, so a fork was brought in to finish the delicious meal.  It was a balmy 25 degrees outside that evening, (awesome after weeks and weeks of constant rain!!!) so we walked the few blocks to a super good gelato and sorbetto place called Amato Gelato.

Now Laura is moving far, far away to be with the man she loves.  But she'll be back because she'll miss our Sunday evening adventures!  Congratulations again to the two of you!  Make sure you come visit us!

Cross Stitch

I finally finished my years-old cross stitch project!  With many thanks to my long train and bus rides.  I knew there was a good reason to live way out in the suburbs!  I'm really pleased with the final product.  And honestly, it's just nice to check it off my list!  Now I need to frame it somehow.  Are there places that do that?  Or sell the supplies?

Anyway, here it is with the rough edges.

And here's zoom-in on the bear and his bows.

Also on the subject of cross stitching, my lovely friend Maryanne did this amazing piece of work for our wedding anniversary.  I know just the place to put it, once it gets framed too.

Check out the beading detail on hers!

1st Anniversary Celebration!

This is a month late but better late than never!

We celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary in Banff on May 15th, 2010.  My wonderful husband planned the entire event and only told me which town we were going so I knew what to pack.  We left on Friday evening after work and went to the Saltlik in Banff for supper.  Then we took a few wrong turns on our way to the Rimrock Resort Hotel partway up the mountain.  Leif managed to get a top floor, corner room!  The view was incredible!!!  I don't think I've ever appreciated the beauty of the mountains like that before.  Leif had chocolate covered strawberries and a cheese and cracker platter sent to the room too.  We got to sleep-in on our actual anniversary on Saturday (which we never seem to be able to do anymore) and then went for lunch and London Fogs at a cute coffee shop in Canmore on our way home.  The only bad thing is that we had to clean the turtle tank when we got home!!!

Here's a couple pictures of the view!  Sorry, no pictures of us.
